First Day at School
i read this poem today in a daily paper and having been reading your blogs about the new school term thought i would share it with you.
IT'S FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL
NOW THERE'S NO NEED FOR TEARS
YOU HOLD HIS HAND TIGHTLY
FOR, THROUGH HIS FIRST YEARS
YOU'VE NEVER BEEN PARTED;
NOT FOR A DAY;
BUT NOW THEY ARE OVER;
THOSE SHORT YEARS OF PLAY.
WEARING HIS BLAZER WITH BADGE
HE'S SO PROUD,
AS HE GOES THROUGH THE GATE
TO JOIN WITH THE CROWD.
MOST OF THEM OLDER, HE LOOKS SO SMALL
STANDING IN LINE TO AWAIT THEACHERS CALL.
THEN THROUGH THOSE GREAT DOORS
INTO THE SCHOOL
YOU WAVE, QUIETLY WEEPING,
YOU FEEL SUCH A FOOL.
THE CHILDREN ARE SMILING;
THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK ROUND,
BUSILY CHATTING TO NEW FRIENDS THEY'VE FOUND.
THE MOTHERS ARE SILENT
WHEN THEY HEAR THE BELL.
YOU'RE NOT ALONE;
THEY'RE CRYING AS WELL
now isn't that so true, and i bet there has been some fathers who have shed a little tear as they send their children to school for the first time!

Makes me think back to my girls 1st days. KC was fine, she was more than ready for school. She used to cry if she had to stay home.
KK RAN to school, she was the smallest kid in jk. She's still so tiny, even though she's in grade 10.
J...My baby. She cride her eyes out on the 1st day of Jk,k, and grade 1. Nearly broke my heart.
It is so hard to let go. I remember thinking 'it's not enough time, I need more time..'
Oh, so sweet. I don't have kids yet, but I still got all choked up reading the poem.
In the education world a good start to school is often measured by how few parents are in tears as their children run into their kindergarten and first grade classrooms.
HI , just to let you know I have moved to beta blogger and I am still trying to get things up and running.
As for back to school I never had any problem letting my boys go off for that first day of school..I had always heard about the mom's losing it at the bus stop that first day and then following the bus to the school I never did...HOWEVER....a couple years ago my oldest son was heading off for his first day of grade 9...And he stood at the door as he had tons of times before to say goodbye and get a hug and kiss from me.....When I found myself reaching up to put my arms around my 6 foot tall boy and give him a kiss goodbye ..I lost it...my baby was so grown up..omg he was going off to grade 9 ..omg he will soon be gone out of the house...oh it was bad ..I cried ..first time I had ever cried over them going off to school...funny eh..

Oh no I didn't - well not were anyone could see me anyroad..nearly 15 years ago I dropped her off at nursery for the first time. You never forget do you?
you sentimantal old fart!!!
true though, once left fyn screaming the school down! felt like a complete bastard and expected social services banging the door down!
My youngest, now 28, ran out the front door and down the street to school on her first day of kindergarten. I hadn't even made it down the stairs yet. The screen door slammed in my face! I was prepared for a sentimental goodbye and she was already at school. It was rather aniclimatic, and tears would have been extreme overkill at that point. But in the end I would much rather have had it that way. I agree with quinn; it sometimes gets harder as they get older.
