I got a Brain

OK then it is official I DO HAVE A BRAIN!!!!!

Remember this post about my 'glue ear', and remember I told you I had to have a CT scan, well I went to see the ENT doctor on Friday for the results, and I mentioned to him that my friends had laughed when I had said that I was to have a CT scan, they wanted to know if it was worth having the scan as surely I would find it distressing to know for sure that I had no brain!
Well he assured me I have a brain and in his words he said to tell them it is a good one! So there all you doubting thomases it is official, not that it gets used a lot mind but I do have a brain! Must say he was laughing at the time!!!
OK had the same old same old tests, which still confirm that I do have fluid in my right ear that is not draining. So the outcome of it all is that I am to have another grommet put in.
The bad news is that as my blood pressure was high I have two choices, and I have a feeling I might have made the wrong choice on this one!
First choice was to wait a few months and monitor my blood pressure, which would mean having to keep going back to the hospital for them to monitor it.
Second choice was to opt to have the operation done with a local aesthetic!
Yep I have gone for the second choice, but only because he assured me that they wouldn't be injecting the local with a needle into my ear!
Now the more I think about this the more I think OMG what have I agreed to! The operation is a minor thing, a small cut in the ear canal, and slip the grommet in, but but but how painful is ear ache, how painful will this be, oh damn why did I agree to this!
On top of that I now have to go see my GP to check out the blood pressure, I have never had high blood pressure, I have it checked every 6 months for my HRT it has always been OK.

Have had my blood pressure checked today at the GP's and it is normal, as normal can be for me anyways! So I might just ring the hospital and see if I can change my mind and have a general instead of a local and get my GP's to monitor my blood pressure, in all fairness I had been sat at the hospital for a few hours and that can be quite stressful!
So watch this space!

ps Now only 8 days to the holiday!!!!!!

Yikes. I would be freaked out, too. I can say things like ..I'm sure you will do fine, and all of that, but will it help?
Probably not.
I AM sure that you will be fine, though :)
When is this happening?
Take lots of photos on your vaca and the next one is going to be to Canada, right?????

You are a brave one! I had a lump removed from my breast with a local for insurance reasons and wanting a quick recovery. It was not bad at all. It is actually easier, I think. Because the pre surgery stuff is not so difficult and recovery is way quicker.

I am glad you have a brain. Thank goodness! Good luck! I am sure you will do very well!

Yes hope all is well and you fare fine!! Enjoy that holiday and get some relax in!

I couldn't enlarge your BRIAN / BRAIN either??

No the brian won't enlarge so what does this mean~ small brian! I think the stress of a hospital appointment sends the BP haywire~ a similar thing happened to me and it was OK when I went to the GP. I hope you get things sorted before you go on holiday.

Oh my! Are you planning to have this done before your holiday?

Sitting in the hospital for any length of time is sure to get my blood pressure going. Hope all goes well for you.

chrisb - had me blood pressure checked yesterday and it is fine, just proves it is the stress of being in the hospital!

cindydiane - no the week after we get back! just in time for Easter!

gawilli - yep that must have been the reason for the high blood pressure!

JIP - can't argue with you there, very good reasoning that is.

tod - i only just noticed i have a brian LOL!

cappy - but you wouldn't look good in my clothes and certainly wouldn't enjoy sleeping with himself now would you?!

You should avoid having a general anesthetic if you can, locals are much safer and won't hurt anymore after wards than if you'd had a GA and you wont feel anything while they are doing the surgery!!!!!!!

It's like a tube in your ear, right? I had them in both ears as a kid, multiple times...I don't remember it hurting but being pissed that I couldn't go in the swimming pool...but maybe it isn't the same thing?

katy said...

dj - but will i hear what they are doing!!

Dilling - yes it is the same thing, luckily i only need the one ear doing

Gosh, you are lucky to have fluid in our ear. I bet it sounds like a day at the beach all the time with the waves crashing on the shore. Do you hear seagulls, too?

I had a tooth removed under local anaesthetic. Was as nervous as hell until they actually got me numbed up, then it was all over before I realised it. It's just about overcoming you fears... (fear of the NHS?)

Wow, I am not a fan of any kind of pain in or around my eyes and ears. Probably most people aren't but I'm like phobic, I do not envy you and have the highest hopes that they keep it as painless as possible.

At least your blood pressure was back to normal. I'd go with the local, too, because the general can be hard to get over. And at least you know for sure that you have a brain!

You'll have to keep chewing something in the flight Katy, that reduces the pain i heard, not so sure.
