Ear, Ear

Ear, ear what's all this then! Well I have to admit that it is official I am still a child!

I am a sufferer of Glue Ear! Children under the age of five are the largest group affected; though for some it can persist into adolescence. It is widely accepted that glue ear can cause temporary hearing loss, contribute to delayed speech development in young children and affect a child's behaviour and their educational progress.
Typical signs include changes in behaviour; becoming tired and frustrated, preferring to play alone and not responding when called. These signs can often be mistaken for stubbornness, rudeness and being naughty. As a result many children with glue ear are misunderstood or labeled as difficult.

So you see it is true, I get tired, I get frustrated, I love 'playing alone', not that I always prefer it, but it is 'nice'! Hey but I am not rude honest I am not! Definitely stubborn and sometimes naughty too!

Saw the ENT specialist today, he has put me on a course of steroids (so that's the diet out of the window then) and given me some nose drops, yes I know it is my ear that is the problem so why not ear drops! Then in three months time, if there is no improvement I will have to have another grommet put in!

No it is not this Grommet you silly people you, it's a little tube that will drain off the fluid from me ear, gosh don't you know anything!
Anyway apart from that I am fine and will now go and catch up with what I have missed over the last day or two. Hope you have been behaving!

Why do they call it Glue Ear?
Do you already have tubes in your ears? That sucks, Kate. I hope that you're feeling better soon.

it is called glue ear because basically it is thick horrible liquid in the ear that isn't draining away, have had grommets in but taken out, they are only tiny and dont hurt

Glue Ear? Is it like super glue? Does the phone stick to your ear? That could be cool when you need both hands while you are talking on the phone and you don't want to use your shoulder.

the bane of my childhood... tubes in the ears.... couldn't go to the beach, the pool, the river... had to stuff cotton in my ears at bath time...and they all fell out anyway...
but that could be cuz I went to the beach and the pool and the river and went swimming...hah!

I hve never heard of that before! Sounds disgusting, like things will get stuck to the side of your head.

I'd rather have a Gromit than a grommet...

The stupid doctors make things more complicated HER INDOORS, can't suggest you anything else.
Steroids have nasty side effects.
They cure something and affect something else.
Have you tried garlik ?

DJ Kirkby said...

You da winna!Come and see!

Cynnie said...

hope that cures ya!.

I've noticed my right ear has been hurting lately ..

I hope the ear glue isnt goin around!

katy said...

jay cam - thanks i am fine

rauf - not too happy about the steroids, but it is only a short course, i love garlic so i use it a lot, not that it helps the ear lol

dj - i have been and thanks

cynnie - its a wait and see game now.

rauf said...

oh no not eating HER INDOORS, you have to keep one garlik bud in the ear, not too deep, just like stuffing cotton wool, i mean plugging with a garlik bud.
Doctor's suggestion is the best.
Hope you are feeling better now

Rauf - you got to be kidding me! garlic in the ear, well at least it would keep the vampires away LOL
