It's Booked

Spent three hours on Monday booking our holiday for feb 2008!

So this is where we are going.

Starting on the 21st Feb 2008 we fly from Manchester to Heathrow then to San Francisco and pick up our hire car, and of course the Sat Nav!!!!

Spending 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf, were we will have time to enjoy some of the delights of San Francisco, cable cars, golden gate bridge and a trip to Alcatraz.

Then it will be in the car to Lake Tahoe and stopping for 2 nights in the Horizon Casino Resort.

Off to Yosemite and stopping for 2 nights in Yosemite Lodge then its on to Mammoth Las Vegas staying 3 nights in Circus Circus hotel, one day will be spent taking a helicopter ride over the grand canyon.

We will be spending 1 night at the Grand Canyon in the National Park Lodges next stop is Lake Havasu for 1 night in the Ramada Inn and the last 2 nights we will be at Anaheim, Los Angeles at the Sheraton Anaheim.

I am so looking forward to this holiday and I know it is such a long way off but we need to save up now for it, so as I have said previously we will not be taking any more hols this year!!!!

So nearer the time if you have any advice on driving in the USA or places that are on our route that we must see I will be asking you for them.

So far this week is going ok, not getting out and about as much as I want to, but hopefully we will manage a day at the sea side on thursday, giving Mr Milo a good run on the beach and eating fish and chips out of the paper on the sea front, as long as it doesn't rain!!!!!!!!!

Hope you are all working hard this week!!!!

That sounds wonderful! I have never really been anywhere outside of Canada, and I would love to do some travelling. I'm sure that you will have a great time. Very brave of you to take a helicopter ride!

Northern California is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in this country. If you have time (or can make time), wine country is not far from San Francisco, and also beautiful. I loved Sonoma. And, Las Vegas will knock your socks off, if you've never been there before. You'll walk until you can't walk any more, and still not see everything.

That is going to be an amazing trip. You are going to be covering A LOT of miles on the interstates driving from place to place. You might be amazed at the distances you will have to cover to get from place to place.

Sounds like a great trip.. except the Los Angeles leg of it.

I'd rather go to Palm Spring - Palm Desert. Go out and see Joshua Natl Forest and a couple of oasis and the San Andreas fault.

But thats cause I don't like the traffic around L.A.

Unless you're going to disneyland or knotts berry farm??

Oh, most of it sounds like a great trip! Bring lots of music, you will be driving a lot. Remember, what looks like a short drive on the map will be a lot longer, this is a big place.

From San Francisco to Lake Tahoe it's 190 miles (about 3 1/2 hours no traffic)

From Lake Tahoe to Yosemite it's 180 miles

From Yosemite to Vegas it's 480 miles (about 8hrs no traffic)

From Vegas to the Grand Canyon it's 270 miles (about 5hrs no traffic)

From the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas it's 490 mi (about 8hrs no traffic)

I know, I know, I'll stop after this, it's just I know that it's hard to really imagine travel distance if you're not used to driving in the US...

Brighton, UK to Inverness, UK is 619.41 miles

You'll travel over 1,610 miles throughout your trip here. It'll be a cool trip, just be prepared for all the car time. There are fun car games to play, though!

We found the driving part of the adventure. So many things to see that are so different from back home. As long as you pace yourselves you will be fine. I'll e-mail you some tips from one Brit to another when I get a chance.
