It's Out!
The dreaded pin removal day is now over yeah!!! He was so brave too, he did go very white and it was a good job he was laid down otherwise we would have been picking him up off the floor! So how did they remove this metal pin that has been stuck out of his toe for the last 6 weeks!
Modern technology being as it is this is what was used,
Plain old fashioned pliers! See I told him I could have done it for him at home! Well I am sorry to say I missed the actual act as I was helping him to breath! Then the nurse just threw the pin away! Can you believe that, this pin has been part of our lives for 6 long weeks and was just thrown into the bin!!!!
Oh well its over and done now, tomorrow he will be able to wear shoes and socks!
Sheffield has recovered well from the floods, as indeed has the most of the South Yorkshire area, although Doncaster is really struggling to get the water to recede. Appeals have been set up to help the people of South Yorkshire to be able to start to clean, repair and replace their properties and belongings.
An insurance company has just stated that it could take 6 months to get properties dried out and repaired at a cost of thousands of pounds.
To all those people whose houses have been flooded, who have lost their possessions my heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how they must be feeling it is so sad. And to those who have lost loved ones my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I think it would be great if 'Camelot' the lottery people were to give money to all the people who have suffered due to the flooding, to help them start to rebuild their lives, but that is in the ideal world.
Right then that's me lot, take care all.

About twenty years ago I had my hand crushed in an industrial accident and had to have two pins put in my thumb. They had to pull them out the same way, by pliers. The bone feels no pain. The tissue and skin around the pin does. But mine only singed when they were removed. It was the thought of it all that upset me. Afterward I just set there and wondered if that was it. I’m glad it is all over for Himself. I KNOW he is.
cheers coffeypot he is so glad it done with too
glad it's gone.
drilled through me hand once (well the engineering company was next door to a pub so what do you expect)
sliced through me finger a week later.
drilled through me thumb
never got a pin in me foot though
Accidents happen in a fraction of a second. With all my recklessness, i never had any serious injuries or fractures. Only very careful people gwt injured. i had a serious fall a couple of months ago, fell from ten feet. my head went down first and hit the stupid marble floor we have in this stupid rented house. my head hit the floor like a coconut. long story, first i checked if i remember all my passwords. did not go for any scan, though my sis kept insisting.
weather is going crazy in the western coast of south India too.
But we in Chennai hardly have any rain, still pretty hot. A couple of showers brought the tempratures down. People think that our life would be a bed of roses always and are not prepared for disasters.
I'm bet he is glad that pin is out! Yuk!
I felt faint just reading this post. And then I read the comments too and will be embracing the carpet in about three seconds.
When I broke my arm back in the day I had to have plates screwed into the bone (both of them actually, both forearm bones where broken). Anyway, they used staples to sew me up and took those out with a pretty normal looking staple remover.
When they took the plates out they put them in a ziplock back for me. I lost them at some point though. I was kind of disappointed that they had cleaned the plates and screws up. I was expecting the to look pretty gross.
i would have fainted....
Those pliers make me think of the dentist !?!
Oh poor Mr HI! I hope the nurse gave him some entonox to ease the pain while she was weilding her pliers! 6 months is so long for all those people I think Caemolt shoudl help out too, shall we start a petition?!
A comment to the RAUF person here; I can't believe you are alive! How did you survive a head first 10 foot fall onto marble?
as sorry as I am you have all been flooded, I am relieved that it has not been the case here. Great weather.
Must tell you about my "screw" that had to be removed from my ankle (the other four remain)
I was put just barely under -- however, I propositioned the anesthesiologist (for my daughter) and blessed them all with this Irish toast: May the wind at your back, always be your own.
(the nurse told me this in recovery and was quite overwhelmed with giggles)
I kept the screw - it is going to eventually be put on a chain. It is the most expensive piece of jewelry in my paltry collection.
thanks everyone, there are a few of you who have had pins and screws in then!
The thought of that makes my feet hurt. At least it is all over with now!
There are several areas here that are under water and the rain keeps coming. I wonder if you ever really recover from a loss like that.
