Want to go Back to America

OK this snow was great but the road to Yosemite, a 12 mile pass named Tiogra, was shut due to the snow. So to get to Yosemite would entail a big diversion, one that we would have to do again to drive to Vegas. So we decided to be adventourous and do our own thing for the next two days and nights! Himself had yet another 'want' he wanted to stay in a proper old type Motel!

So we planned our route Bridgeport - Mono Lake - Bisphops - day one, Big Pine - Lone Pine then to Death Valley.

OK so by now you would have thought we had learned our lesson with Tilly! I programmed Bridgeport into it! So after 60 miles himself noticed that we were going in the wrong direction! I have no sense of direction, but why did it take him 60 miles to work this one out huh!!!! Too many towns have the same name in the States and thats my defence! So about turn, not too far really an extra 120 miles round trip, but it was all on a mountain pass, oh well no worries it all add's to the fun and excitement.

We stopped at Bridgeport, but the shops where just closing! Drove onto Mono Lake, one of the strangest looking places in the US and possibly one of the oldest lakes in the world. This photo doesn't do it justice at all but it was the best I could get.

Driving and driving getting dark now time to look for a motel. Called at Tom's Place, just off the road, very, very dark, no lights, cafe one side motel rooms the other, too spooky for me I had coffee and ran! Could see lights of a town in the distance so we drove on, finally we came to what we thought was the town of Bishop's, we were tired and hungry, pulled into the motel. The owner said it was 50 dollars - but it aint got no bath tub and 15 dollars extra for the kitchen. The room was freezing, the tv must have been 40 years old. We slept we got up we went! About a mile down the road we entered Bishop Town full of Motels and eateries and very nice too!

So inot Death Valley, we stopped the night at Stovepipe Wells, it was in the 80's and it was bloody beautiful, no need for words now so enjoy the photos.
