30 years ago today most people will remember where they where and what they where doing when the sad news of Elvis death hit the headlines.
I was sweet sixteen and had just left school, my mum broke the news to me, I just sat and cried and cried. My brother was in the army in Germany and I remember him phoning to see how I was, that was the sweetest thing my brother has ever done.
So today I remember Elvis, I will be listening to his music and shedding a tear or two.
Love you Elvis x

I was only 9 when he died. It really didn't affect me too much. I remember the "breaking news" and the announcement, but not much else.

I was a supervisor for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. and was riding around checking on my territory, listening to talk radio, when Neil Bortz broke the news. It was a surprise, but I wasn’t shocked. I had been hearing of drug abuse from him for years. My first wife cried for days every time she heard an Elvis song.

I was 8, and I remember it because my Nana was so upset. Some of Aunts cried like they lost a friend. I remember the photo on the front page of The Enquirer of Elvis in his casket.
Creepy, and even when I was a little kid I knew that it was in bad taste.
My Aunt Dolena sent a sympathy card to one of Elvis' family members and got a reply...

the reason I remember it was because my friend Judy called and her words were "he was too young to die"

then... she went to a party and had a tire blow out and went over a cliff and died.

pamela - that is so tragic, so sorry for your friend Judy and her pamily

My dad took me to see the Elvis movies as they would come out at the local drive-in theater. I always thought he was so cool. His death was sad, but the Elvis I remember best was much younger and a lot healthier. At least he appeared that way. He sure moved a mountain with his music.
