Fun Monday - Blogging

hosted by lisas chaos who would like to know more about you, what makes you tick. I’d like to know how you started blogging. Did you keep a diary under lock and key safely hidden as a child? Do you still? Do you share the same things on your blog that you would have, or do, in your diary? Why did you start blogging and why do you continue? May as well throw in any roadblocks you have run into while blogging. If you still have your old diaries we’d love to see them.

So I thought this one would be really easy to do; now I am not so sure!
How did I start blogging, I mean I had never even heard the word blog never mind know what it was! I can blame my blog on a friend who came across blogs whilst surfing. So I started by just reading blogs, I so enjoyed hearing about how people lived, I loved the fact that you could share anything with anyone and be totally anonymous and that people would just drop by and leave you comments.

So we decided to start our own blogs, hey I did and to this day she has not become a blogger just a lurcher! I really became hooked, I loved just being me and the fact that people would and could associate with what I was saying and how I was feeling. People came and left me words of wisdom, words of comfort, they laughed with me, and if I needed a kick up the ass they would give it me. This world of blogging has really become part of my life, the people I have met, who in reality I have never met, I now consider as friends. I have learnt so much about how people cope with their lives, how freely they will take you under their wings and give their advice and opinions. I just love being part of this big friendly world of bloggers!

I have arranged to meet an ex-blogger in the States next year whilst we are on holiday, well my son thinks that it is a crazy idea, he just cant understand how you can make friends with people who you don't see. As for him knowing what I talk about and show you he would be mortified!!!!

I did stumbled on a work colleague's blog by accident, he had his photo displayed, wasn't sure what to do, do I tell him I know him or just leave! Well took advice from my fellow bloggers and let him know who I was, mind you did play a little game of guess who first!

I never kept a diary as a child or even now, maybe I should just so I don’t forget things, which I seem to find very easy to do these days! So would I share my diary with my blog, I doubt it as I think it would be very boring to hear about my missed appointments!

So why do I continue to blog, easy I am an addict!!! I can sit in my own house and travel the world, I have learnt new words, been shown new foods, mmm love the food and if I can bring a smile to someone’s face who is feeling down that makes it even more worth while.

I did start out anonymously, no photos, no real name, but then as I got to know people I decided to show myself!

I often wonder how much time I spend blogging, some mornings I even put the computer on before I go to work, I start at 6am!!! As soon as I get home, before I take the dog out, I will have a quick look to see if there are any comments. I will have the computer on all evening and some of the afternoon, I will read everyones blog on my blog list.

Although I come from a family of bloggers I never realised how addictive it would be. I try and restrict my blogging time and definitely watch less (in fact hardly any) television now because I prefer to blog.

Someone at my work asked if they could have the url for my blog; I refused! For me I think it is wise if real lifers don't see this part of me!

Any yes, blogging is sooo addictive. I find myself staying up late or getting up real early just to catch my american or aussie blogger friends!

Anonymous said...

Those comments sure are addictive aren't they? I would never mix my diary with my blog, I write my blog for others to read.

As for TV, I actually think one of the positive things about blogging is that it has cut down my TV hours considerably.

katy said...

beccy - everything seems to get put on hold due to me blogging!!!

kahless - not a lot of people at work know about my blog, and i hope none of my family do!

willowtree - think himslef gets fed up of the tapping on the keyboard whilst trying to watch tv!

Only two people that I know read my blog and no one from work. It is safer that way.

I love reading peoples blogs and finding out about their diverse lives. I definitely watch much less TV since I started and that's a good thing.

You should definitely meet up with your other blogger on holiday, it was great fun when I did it.

I'm with beccy and WT I know longer hear embee saying you watch too much TV (pot calling!!) the first thing he now say when he comes in from work is 'tippy tap tap'. If I'm not at the computer he says can't you get a connection!! You are lucky to be meeting up with another blogger- I am going to visit Sam in Nov. so am likely to meet at least one of the food bloggers and you never know I might get to meet enidd!!

I started much the same as you and I have yet to meet a fellow blogger face to face but feel I know some well. I don't think it's silly to meet face to face. But I met my husband online. :) And he's a great guy!

AHHH so I see you can relate to my current roadblock....your last paragraph sounds like me except I am a stay at home mom. I am setting the limits and being tough on myself so I can continue! Thank you for your encouragement!

I don't think its crazy to meet a fellow blogger...there are a few already I'd like to meet and hang out with in person and I have only been at this for almost 3 months!!

Loved the pics!

I've met a fellow blogger and it was great! I'm sure you'll have a great time. And I'm glad you started blogging.

My whole family blogs and it seems to be another bond between us--we're learning even more about each other. Especially my brother, I'm hearing stories I never heard before.

I'm glad you're feeling better, btw. I'm a little behind in my reading. I have to take breaks from the blogs every now and then so I can get other stuff done!

This was such a good post! I barely watch TV now. I'd rather blog :o) I meet many more friends blogging then I do sitting in front of the tv.

You are so right - it is
VERY addictive. I have little time to blog - but I have found that I feel guilty if I don't make time for my blogging buddies. Great post!

It's an endless vicious cycle!

But you're right, it's been great becoming friends with so many people.

I'm one of your best friends now, right?

Anonymous said...

I will admit that blogging is an addiction, but only because, like you, I have come to treasure the friends I have made in BlogLand!

Jay said...

I can't believe how addicting blogging is. It's all I can do to just make myself avoid them on weekends sometimes.

katy said...

It is true that people who don't blog don't understand - and I someday, I would love to take a Blog Tour - around the word and meet some bloggers in person.

btw - do you use Bloglines? It not - you should, because it helps reduce the amt of time looking at posts to see who has updated.

katy said...

corky - of course you are, so gald you had max and now so glad you got me;-)

stephanie - i love em all!

jay - i very rarely take a day off from checking out everyones posts! but weekends are a bit quite on the blog front!

Blogging is certainly addictive! As an avid reader, I have to admit that my reading (of books) has suffered because now I'd rather go bloghopping at lunch time at work, for example, then read.

Speaking of which...lunch is over, back to work for me!

Blogging is educational, too (she says, trying to justify it even more, lol). I've only met one blogger IRL, and we aren't really in each other's community, but it was still fun.

And, I agree--comments are addictive and non-bloggers will NEVER understand it! I've actually tried a recipe or two I've seen online.

Like you, for a long while I was reluctant to post pictures...now, not so much. I hope I don't look like your last one, though!!! :)

How funny that you discovered one of your co-workers was a blogger. I accidently discovered that one of my neighbors blogged. It's kinda fun.

katy said...

karina - poor you fancy having to work when its fun monday!

robin - of course it is educational, i have learnt so many new things, new words, new friends etc lol

susan - hope my neighbours on my left dont find out, posted about them once lol

No! No! Take my kids! cracked me up.

I must admit, I feel a little possessive and protective of my laptop. Coz I usually get up in the morning - have a cup of coffee and read the blogs I love.

I definitely watch very little t.v. these days as a result. And I've been known to go to bed far later than I should......too many times;).

My 5 year old grand daughter "goober" was watching me read your blog and she was very curious about the smiley face and the sad face. She says she likes the happy face best of all.
She was also a bit afraid of the man who was falling apart on his computer.. ha h aha ha ha

So far I have only really met one other blogger -- we met before we knew that each other blogged. mentioned it in passing - and then shared addresses.

dancing with the stars is starting soon.. thats about the only entertainment I watch on TV anymore.

The rest of the time I am like you - turn on my computer to see comments and read blogs. Be late to work. Come home and try to get all my work done around the house so I can blog b4 I go to bed.

Molly said...

Great post, Hers Indoors. Your pictures with this post are so funny. You are right the blogging can be quite addictive. I have been trying limit mine some as I am teaching now, but I look forward to next summer and more blogging hours.

Jenni said...

Oh yes. That answers the question of why I continue to blog. Absolute addiction. It is second only to coffee. No, scratch that. I have been known to read blogs and write on my blog PRE coffee. That's huge.

Anonymous said...

I put my computer on first thing in the morning too, and check it right before I go to bed for both e-mails and new posts and comments. We have become addicted, haven't we? But what fun we have had!

Robocop said...

I just LOVE this pic you used at the bottom of your post. Is THAT in our future?**LOL**

raine said...

I don't worry about putting up pictures of my kids, but none of me! I don't use their names and figure if someone comes across my blog that recognizes them, so be it. I also have given out the url of my blog to friends I know. I don't mind that people read my writing - and it keeps me honest!! ;0)

Emma in Canada said...

Thanks for the comment over at my blog.

Funny that your son thinks it's strange that you would meet someone you've met on here, they say the younger generation is supposed to be more understanding of this whole internet thing!

DJ Kirkby said...

Ah I liked this one. I check my blog first thing too, chopper has it on ready and waiting for me when I get home from owrk.

Anonymous said...

Ha! I'm an addict too! I check in the morning when the kids are eating, then at nap and finally when they are sleeping I get to write myself:o) love it!

I'm terrified someone at my work will find my blog. Apart from the ones who already know about it.
